Hello and welcome to my website/blog
However you got here: recommendation, business card or browsing I’m delighted you found me.
This is my showcase and portfolio of a variety of projects spanning the last few years.
As a child I lived with cats, cats and cats: for my sister and I contact with cats was the most significant relationships we had. We are both very creative also, which was not much valued in our family.
Via a circuitous route, through mundane jobs, challenging relationships and illness I found myself signed off from work, and feeling totally lost. It was my sister who suggested I started drawing again – that was in 1996.
Everything changed…
I took A level Art at evening classes, and attended a variety of personally funded art groups. Encouragement and support from others emboldened me to apply to Central St Martins College of Art & Design for a place on their foundation course – as it was the closest to me, and I was accepted.
After a pause, I applied to Chelsea College of Art & Design and to Goldsmiths. I was accepted at both, but took the place at Chelsea as the course had been recommended to me: Design & Public Art. It was suggested as I had an interest in communication and interaction in my art practice.
One year after completion of my degree I met Fred. A lovely tabby cat who was sat waiting for me as I arrived home one day. Despite my attempts to not let him move in to my home, he was determined and was my main housemate until 2019, when he passed.
And here my life took another tangent. For health reasons I was not working, and had come out of another disastrous relationship. I began to seek out a new interest outside home, and saw an advert for a local Animal Rescue centre.
I have volunteered there for many years, and in 2008 I began making catnip toys for sale in reception, finally sourcing a very powerful strain of the herb which makes my toys VERY Strong!
I originally did these as a donation, then as they were launched in the Christmas catalogue I sold them at cost, and now supply them at a reduced price, to maximise the profit to them. It has become a very enjoyable activity for me and has allowed me to develop different shapes. From the original hearts I have branched out to bones, mice and cookies.
In the last two years or so I have begun creating kitty cabins, made from boxes, for use in enrichment and socialisation of kittens at the Home.
This website is intended to showcase my work, and direct interested buyers to the place to go to obtain my items.
